The next space age: Private space companies test the final frontier

A bit like the mythical phoenix, the last flight of NASA’s space shuttle Atlantis in July of 2011 heralded the birth of a new phase of spaceflight. The gap left by the shuttle has created opportunities for private spacecraft ventures in the United States and overseas, and the markets for space tourism and the commercial space launch industry are forecast to climb sharply over the next 10 years.
